Fashion Friday: A Family Affair!

I didn't think I would be posting another maternity outfit of the day...but I'm still pregnant! And feeling everyday go by sooooooo sloooooowly. Thankfully we have our induction date booked so at least there's an end in sight! Now we're just waiting to see if this lazy baby boy makes an entrance on his own terms in the meantime. That would be the ideal scenario!

My outfit is rather grandpa inspired, ha ha ha! But this cardigan is so cosy & comfortable especially now that the weather has decided to take a turn for the worst. (Someone tell Ireland it's spring time!) The chunky cardi is from Vero Moda and the nursing/maternity top is from Boob. These are some of the only tops that cover the whole bump anymore! My maternity jeans are from ASOS, as are the boots - although they were bought around 3 years ago.

I am also wearing my Alex & Ani bracelets, gold Scorpio necklace from my dad and Orelia earrings. My lipstick is Kate 03 by Rimmel and on my nails is Barry M "Blue Moon" nail paint. Did I mention I'm sick of baby blue nails?!

Emilia & her daddy were kind of matching so I thought it would be cute to share the entire family's outfits this week! Jonathan's hat& jumper are from Superdry, his jeans are by Diesel and his shoes are from Skechers

Emilia is wearing one of her new outfits from Next - I love these leggings& stripy pussycat jumper! Her headband is from The Children's Place and her shoes are from Clarks. It was pretty difficult to get a smiley picture of her again today...sometimes she's just not in a co-operative mood! But she still looked cute nevertheless :) Here is our family outfit of the day video!

Hope you're all having a fabulous Friday!

Style Saturday: Baby & Toddler Clothing Haul!

Happy Saturday! Today I thought I'd share some recent purchases & clothing items that I got for both Emilia & "Junior".

I picked up this adorable set of three babygrows in Next (size 0-3 months) with little doggies, stripes & stars on them. They caught my eye while I was standing at the cash register and I couldn't resist! Next have the best quality babygrows - very thick cotton & so cosy! I used to love them for Emilia when she was a baby.

You may have seen this outfit before (I featured it in our most recent Fashion Friday post!) but I got Emilia a stripy pussycat jumper & matching navy blue leggings - also from Next. Again I love the quality of both of these! I bought these in size 12-18 months as Next clothing tends to run quite big.

Probably my favourite outfit of the bunch - I got Emilia these pretty pastel pink jeans& a chunky knitted jumper which I thought would be perfect for spring! The jeans look really long (she doesn't have the longest legs!) although I bought both items in size 12-18 months.

My mom got some things from Zara Baby. This little ducky babygrow/pyjama is perfect for Easter! It's size 1/3 months and Zara sizes tend to run quite small! I love the tiny little breast pocket! :)

Emilia got a pack of vests...thankfully Zara do 18-24 size vests! I couldn't find any in Next - I had to buy separates which was very scary!! I'm not ready to put Emilia in knickers just yet, ha ha ha!

Emilia also got some new pink star pyjamas from Zara. These are size 2/3 years but look like they'd fit her now.

Last but not least is this "squeeze me"lemon hoody & grey rolled up leggings set, size 18/24 months. Emilia actually wore this today - we didn't do an official outfit of the day post but I did snap an Instagram of her. She looked so cute! She wore it with a black headband & yellow bow-bow ;)

Those were all our spring style finds so far! I hope you enjoyed this post. I am currently snuggled up in bed listening to the rain & waiting on a baby who refuses to leave my belly! Have a wonderful weekend!

Tuesday
Don't freak out! The baby was not born - this was an April Fool's joke! I was actually surprised and felt bad by how many people thought it was real! I genuinely thought the name would give it away! So, I'm sorry if you did fall for it but no this is not our baby boy - it's a screenshot of me with Emilia only Jonathan photoshopped my gownie blue!

Wednesday
Proving to the world that I am in fact still pregnant! This outfit is so cosy...I could live in it! The jumper is from French Connection (not maternity), leggings are from Vero Moda (also not maternity) and I'm wearing my grey Bailey Button Bling UGGs.

Thursday
Ever since I got my new curling wand I've been getting requests to make an updated hair tutorial...well on Thursday I did just that! The video/blog post will be live this Tuesday :)

Friday
On Friday morning I went into hospital for a fetal assessment. They do this when you go overdue to check both the fluid levels around the baby and also a non-stress test (which is what I'm doing in the picture above). It's not painful at all, they just strap you up for about 20 minutes to monitor baby's heartbeat, any contractions (yeah right!) and so on. Everything was perfect so we are still waiting!

Saturday
My little lemon drop in her new Zara outfit from Oma! I blogged about this set in my last Style Saturday post. She looked so cute! When I went to take this picture of her, she ran over to the windowsill, crossed her legs and said "cheese!!"

Last night we went to my mom's house for dinner & she made tiramisu. OMG...just looking at this makes my mouth water! My mama makes the BEST tiramisu! I've loved it ever since I was little! Emilia loved it too...it was the best I've ever seen her eat with a spoon, ha ha ha! She couldn't get that mascarpone in fast enough! I could probably eat a whole vat of this stuff, seriously.

Sunday
This was actually yesterday's outfit (I'm currently in sweats & minimal makeup!) but I wanted to post! Here is the bump from all angles. Feeling huuuuuge & very, very tired! In this pic I'm wearing an ASOS Maternity jumper, skinny jeans (which are now out of stock!) & my Sandhurst Savoy Hunter boots.

Those were my snaps for the week! If you want to follow me on Instagram you can find me here

Mommy Monday: Postpartum Clothing Haul!

I recently got a couple of items for both postpartum & breastfeeding/nursing that I thought I would share with you all!

If you followed my postpartum journey last time, you'll know that I was a huge fan of the Belly Bandit. This is amazing for breastfeeding mamas as not only does it help suck your tummy in and go back to normal, it also helps with your posture and to prevent backache when feeding. Last time I used the Bamboo Belly Bandit in nude (which I still own). This time I got it in black as well. I used this everyday - taking it off at night - for the first few months and it definitely helped shrink my belly!

Also from Belly Bandit, I got their new Mother Tucker Leggings in black. These are supposed to help flatten your tummy as well as compress your bum, thighs & "muffin top". In the first couple of weeks postpartum, these are the areas you are always naturally most self conscious about to it's nice to have that added support & coverage under your regular clothes!

I also got some things from Boob. As many of you probably know, I used this nursing wear brand all throughout last year while breastfeeding Emilia & also through my second pregnancy. I love the quality of their clothing as everything is made from organic cotton & washes super well! This Fast Food Nursing Bra and Seamless Brief set are so cute with the polka dots & lace detailing, plus they feel very comfortable and soft!

I also got some washable breast pads which are made from natural silk. I'm curious to try these - they are supposed to be super comfortable! Last time I was breastfeeding I just used the disposable ones and after my milk started regulating I stopped using them. But during the first couple of weeks I leaked A LOT and definitely needed them! So I'm interested to see if these are any different to the disposables.

I got this striped nursing dress in turquoise, which I think would be so cute with flip-flops for spring/summer! (Actually more like an Irish/English summer!)

This knitted coral/pink dress could be hit or miss...I'm not sure yet! I will have to see how it looks when it's on. I love the colour and design but it may be a bit grannyish on me! We'll see :)

I also got this navy blue & white striped nursing tank, which I can totally see myself wearing with a lot of different outfits - it's so versatile!

Last but not least I got another B-Warmer hoodie...I already have one in grey and ever since I got it I wished I would have bought a brighter colour. I know Emilia was born in the autumn and I had been shopping for the colder months...and admittedly I do wear a lot of grey but for hoodies & loungewear sometimes it's more fun to keep it bright and cheerful! So this is a big change for spring/summer - bright yellow!

That's everything I got so far. I'm looking forward to wearing everything & featuring some of these in upcoming outfit of the days! You can watch my Postpartum Fashion Haul below:

Beauty Tuesday: Straight to Wavy Hair Routine!

Ever since I started wearing my hair this way I've gotten a ton of requests to do a post/tutorial on my routine! Although this is not unlike any other hair tutorials I've posted before, I do think I still have a few tips to share especially when it comes to adding volume. (Something that I can't get enough of!)

Here is my "before" picture. This is my hair fully blow-dried and about as straight as it gets without any added styling or tools. I wash my hair twice a week as my hair type is dry and pretty thick. I try to only use heat on it on the two days that I wash it, so as not to damage it too much!

I wash my hair with Aussie Miracle Moist Shampoo (highly recommend this stuff!) and condition with Aussie 3 Minute Miracle Reconstructor, which is a deep conditioning treatment. This makes my hair feel silky soft & hydrated!

After I get out of the shower, I brush out my hair using the Tangle Teezer. My natural hair is very textured & wavy with a tendency to tangle easily...this brush is an absolute life-saver! I then leave it to air dry for as long as possible, making sure that it lies over to the opposite side to where my hair naturally parts. (This gives way more volume at the roots.) By the time I'm finished breakfast/getting ready in the morning my hair is usually about 80% dry. At this stage I blow dry it upside down, brushing it all the time and funnelling the blowdryer down the hair shaft (so the cuticle remains closed which keeps frizzies away!).

After my hair is fully dry, it's curling time! This is my Tigi Catwalk Professional Fat Curl Stick. I got it from ASOS a few weeks ago and have been obsessed with it ever since! I use it at the highest heat setting (level 25) and it switches off/on very simply with 0/1 buttons. The only thing I will say about this is that it does take quite a while to heat up...especially compared to the likes of my GHD Eclipse which takes seconds! This takes about 1-2 minutes. It has a swivel cord & what I really like about it is that the tip of the wand never gets hot so there's much less of a risk of burning your shoulder or ear!

You can watch the tutorial to get a better idea of what technique I use to curl my hair but I basically just do it in sections, facing the wand downwards and wrapping the hair away from my face.  Here is the outcome:

After curling I always spray a little bit of dry shampoo at the roots and tousle/separate the waves with my fingers for a more relaxed, natural look. I use Batiste Dry Shampoo XXL - this is the best dry shampoo that gives a ton of volume!

I use this in between washes and brush out my hair with the Tangle Teezer so that it always looks fresh! I don't use a setting spray or any kind of hairspray in my hair as it holds curl quite well...these will fall out a bit more throughout the day and on day 2 and 3 I still have a relaxed wave to my hair without using any heat.

The final step in my routine is to apply a few drops of serum or oil. I do this because my hair type is dry so I tend to repeat this again on day 2 and 3. Right now I am using Ojon Damage Reverse Instant Restorative Hair Serum. I just rub it between my hands & distribute it through the ends of my hair to keep it looking silky & smooth.

That is my full straight to wavy hair routine! If you'd like to watch the video, check it out on my channel!

What I Ate Wednesday {4.4.14}

Breakfast
This was the morning of my fetal assessment so I actually ate breakfast in the car (I made my porridge ahead of time & then just took the bowl with me!) and forgot to take a picture. But here are the ingredients I generally use to make it! The only difference is, this morning I had the Golden Syrup variety of Quick Oats because we had one packet left and I wanted to use it up. I also use Alpro almond milk, 1/2 a banana and some ground cinnamon. That's it!

When we got home from the hospital I had a vanilla Nespresso :)

Lunch
We ate lunch at home, so it's pretty boring - sorry guys! But ham & cheese toasties are my latest obsession. Made this with Brady's crumbed ham & Dubliner extra mature cheddar. We get this multiseed bread fresh from the bakery each day! I also added some chopped veggies that we had in the fridge - San Marzano tomatoes & cucumber.

Dinner
Not very healthy, but it was a Friday night so you know it had to be pizza! This is actually a frozen pizza from Milano's (Pizza Express) - my favourite is the Margherita.

Dessert
For dessert I had an apple tart slice from La Cocina (local Spanish bakery stall at the farmers' market) and a caramel Nespresso!

That's it! You can watch my What I Ate video here!

Style Saturday: New Hair!

I'm back! Sorry about the two day hiatus...but I was a bit busy - having a baby!! Yes, I gave birth to our beautiful baby boy on Wednesday :) I will do a full blog post on the whole labour & delivery along with pictures of him and all that jazz next Monday so look out for that!

In the meantime, I wanted to do a bit of a hair update! I knew I was scheduled to be induced on Tuesday evening so that morning I went to get a little bit pampered & have my hair done. My nerves were all over the place that day so it was nice to do something relaxing to take my mind off everything! As you can tell I did get it cut quite a bit...in fact I'm even debating going a tiny bit shorter. But essentially I wanted it shoulder length again. I also got my balayage refreshed and my stylist took the same highlight colour through a few front face-framing pieces. The roots and the rest of my hair is all my natural colour.

I am SO happy with the outcome! My hairstylist Shelly blowdried my hair super bouncy & with lots of volume which I requested since I thought I would be spending a few days in the hospital and I wanted the style to last! I'm looking at these pictures now lusting after how fresh & washed it looks...right now it looks a bit ridiculous as I haven't had a chance to wash or style it with a new baby at home!

The salon I go to is Staunton Byrne in East Village, Douglas. My colourist is Shane & the stylist who always cuts my hair is Shelly. I highly recommend them if you are looking for a good salon in Cork! Let me know what you think of the new style! :) And I hope you are having a wonderful weekend.

My Week in Pictures - April 7th - 13th

Oh, what a week this past one was! Probably one of the best weeks of my life ;) Sorry in advance for the overload of pictures!

Monday
Still pregnant and feeling absolutely exhausted! I think I felt like he would never come at this stage...I am SO glad that part is over!

Tuesday
This was my induction day. I was feeling so anxious and stressed! I don't know why but I was a lot more nervous this time around than with Emilia. I had booked a hair appointment in hopes that it would make me de-stress a bit and that some pampering would calm me down! Here I am waiting for the colour to develop :)

The "after" shot of my hair! I am so happy with the results...you can read all about that in Saturday's blog post.

And here I am later that evening! My induction was scheduled for 9pm, but as it turned out I had actually gone into the very early stages of labour myself naturally so they cancelled it. I spent the night in the hospital though, waiting to see how far I would progress by myself. I am wearing my blue polka dot night dress from Baby Be Mine (with a matching pillow case!) as well as the super cute labour socks

Wednesday
One of the happiest days of my life! I gave birth to this beautiful baby boy! Eduardo Jonathan Saccone Joly, born 13:12 weighing 7lbs 7oz. We are so in love with him!

I could not believe how alike Eduardo & Emilia are! When he first came out I thought he looked identical to her. Obviously there are differences too but if you compare their newborn pictures they are so similar! The same dark hair, skin & eyes! She even got a blue blanket because the hospital didn't have enough pink...ha ha ha!

This was later in the evening when Emilia came to visit her new baby brother. She is so sweet & gentle with him...the perfect big sister!

Thursday
I snapped this picture in the early hours of the morning after a quick wardrobe change ;) He is wearing an adorable Ted Baker babygrow I got him in Debenhams. I can't believe how tiny he is! For some reason I thought he would be huge...but he's only 4oz bigger than Emilia was. And all his newborn clothes are too big!

Friday
I actually ended up coming home the day after giving birth (Thursday) because I missed Emilia & being at home so much! Last time was so different...I was really nervous about being left alone with a new baby, I didn't know how to breastfeed and I relied so much on the midwives at the hospital. This time I knew what to expect...the breastfeeding wasn't as painful, I didn't get as many stitches (or an episiotomy) so I went home!

Here is the little prince in yet another cute babygrow...this one is from Debenhams BlueZoo.

Saturday
All the way up to giving birth, I had joked to Jonathan about 'push presents' - when a husband gives their wife a gift for literally pushing out their baby. I had honestly only been joking around with him and definitely didn't expect anything! But he & Emilia surprised me with this huge bunch of flowers and Alex & Ani "Mom" bracelet! He truly is the best husband I could wish for.

Sunday
Okay, this was not planned! In fact this was Eduardo's 2nd outfit change after a big poo explosion...but here we are in matching yellow! I'm in my Boob b-warmer hoodie & he is in a Gerber babygrow. I didn't know boys could be so handsome in lemon ;)

Those were my snaps for this life-changing week! You can follow me on Instagram here.

Mommy Monday: Meet My Baby! Labour & Delivery Story

$
0
0

He's finally here! Our beautiful little prince, Eduardo Jonathan Saccone Joly was born April 9th 2014 at 13:12 weighing 7lbs 7oz. We are so in love with him!

I was scheduled to be induced on Tuesday evening at 9pm. By that stage I was 8 days overdue and so ready to meet this baby! I didn't get up to my room until around 10pm, so it was quite late by the time my doctor came to check me. By that stage I had been hooked up to a non-stress test where they monitor baby's heartbeat and any contractions. I started to feel a sort of dull cramping around my lower back & abdomen, similar to what I had been feeling over the past few days (mostly at nighttime). Suddenly the little line on the machine that was monitoring contractions peaked a bit, right when I felt a cramp. When my doctor arrived I asked him whether I was having mini contractions. It turned out that yes, I was in the very early stages of labour! At that stage my OB decided not to begin the induction (which would have consisted of giving me prostaglandin gel). He wanted to see how far I would progress on my own before breaking my water the next morning.

So Jonathan left the hospital shortly after and I spent the night there...my contractions continued but they were very small and didn't get much stronger or more frequent! The next morning at 9am I was brought down to the labour ward where my doctor broke my water. I then waited about half an hour before being hooked up to an oxytocin drip where I was given a tiny amount. Because I had already gone into early labour myself and being a second time mom, my doctor & midwife were very aware that things could progress very quickly...and they were right! My contractions started to get a little bit stronger and after another half hour they increased the dosage (again by a tiny amount!) and I went into full-blown labour pretty quickly. I dilated very fast and the contractions got way stronger. Thankfully I had made everyone very aware that I wanted the epidural so my midwife called the anaesthesiologist very early on. By the time I got it, the contractions were pretty bad but I was using gas & air to manage the pain so at least I was quite out of it!

Considering I was brought to the labour ward at 9am and Eduardo was born shortly after 1pm, this was a very short labour! With Emilia my water was broken at 6 or 7am and she didn't make an appearance till half past four! I also feel like there was a lot less pushing this time around. Of course, one of the downsides of the epidural is that your feeling is almost all gone from down there so when the doctor tells you to push it's hard to even know if you're doing it properly! But pushing both babies out was such an amazing & beautiful experience...I can't even begin to explain it. With Emilia I think I was more shocked and overwhelmed when they handed her to me...I couldn't believe she was mine! This time I was a bit more prepared but also more emotional! The moment when you hold your baby for the first time is one of the happiest & incredible times of life. Little Eduardo was worth every pain, every stretch mark, every haemorrhoid & all the awful heartburn & constipation I ever got this pregnancy! If I had to do it all again for him I definitely would.

Something that I forgot to mention in my labour & delivery story video, was how grateful and appreciative I am of my doctor and all the midwives that looked after me in the hospital. I had an amazing experience and felt so well taken care of. I had the same OB deliver both my babies (Prof. John Higgins) and although I am fairly certain that I'm done having babies...if I ever got pregnant again I would move back to Cork just so that he could be the one to do it again! I would definitely recommend my OB and Cork University Maternity Hospital to anyone - the care they provided me, Emilia, Eduardo (and even Jonathan!) with was really of the highest standards.

You can watch my Labour & Delivery Story video below!

And here is the actual video of me giving birth to Eduardo!

I will be making postpartum updates in the next coming weeks/months so keep an eye out for those too!

Beauty Tuesday: How I Wash My Makeup Brushes!

$
0
0

This week I thought I would show you guys how I wash my makeup brushes. I've gotten a few requests to explain how I do this ever since you guys have been seeing it on the vlogs. I tend to wash my brushes on the same day every week (Sunday) so it's just become part of my routine. I used to also spot clean them every day with either brush cleanser or makeup wipes but ever since I became a mom, that's just not really possible! I do my makeup exactly the same every day anyway, and I use the same brushes so it's actually pretty easy to keep them clean as I don't tend to mix colours. I love and look forward to the feeling of my fresh clean brushes every Monday morning!

Here's what my brushes look like before being washed. Pretty dirty and gross! These are all the makeup brushes I use on a daily basis. They are a mixture of Real Techniques, Dior, Sedona Lace, LA Creative and Urban Decay.

Here is all I use to wash my brushes!

Step 1: Soak them in olive oil to get the colour out (this works especially well if you have white tips!). I pour some olive oil into a little bowl and swish the brush around in it. Then I hold the brush facing downwards under a stream of warm water while squeezing out the oil. You will be able to see all the colour coming out with the oil.

Step 2: I put some Aveda Shampure shampoo (this is the shampoo we use on Emilia! It's all natural and very gentle) into the palm of my hand and swoosh the brush around in it to get it all lathered up. Then I rinse it out the same way as before, under a stream of warm water while squeezing out all the product. I do this twice over if the brush is bigger or dirtier and I used more oil. You want to make sure to get all the olive oil out of your brushes otherwise they will get greasy.

Step 3: I lay all my brushes out flat on a folded towel with the brush heads sitting over the edge of the towel. This is so that they can dry properly. Sometimes if it's later in the day and I need them to be dry for the following morning, I'll put them on a windowsill over the radiator (not directly over the radiator...you don't want to damage them with too much heat!).

And that's it! It's very simple and doesn't take much time especially if you don't use a lot of brushes like me! I also think if you do this at the same time every week it will become part of your routine and you won't even have to think about it. Then you will always enjoy fresh, clean & healthy brushes! :)

You can watch my video tutorial on how I clean my makeup brushes here:

What I Ate Wednesday {15.4.14}

Breakfast
Breakfast was organic porridge with 1/2 a banana, blueberries, cinnamon & a decaf Nespresso! I also have been continuing to drink Spatone (iron supplement) with my morning water as I feel I need the extra boost due to breastfeeding. I just take one sachet instead of the recommended two in pregnancy. This one is the apple flavour which is actually very nice! It tastes like apple juice and gets rid of the slight metal taste that the plain ones have.

Of course Emilia's friends had to join her for breakfast :) Two Minnies and a Mickey! As you probably have already deducted from this picture, she is obsessed with Minnie Mouse at the moment.

Lunch
Sorry to be a total bore with my lunches...but I do tend to eat the same thing when I'm at home! Today I had a plain ciabatta toastie with crumbed ham, mature cheddar cheese, San Marzano tomatoes & cucumber. I also had another pint of water. I have been drinking TONS of water now that I'm breastfeeding...it makes me so thirsty! In fact as soon as Eduardo latches on, it's as if I can feel the moisture being drained out of me!

Emilia had a big ol' plate of leftover pasta! Ha ha ha...this portion is HUGE and she ate about 1/8 of it. We just had leftovers from 2 nights before and she loves penne so she had them for her lunch.

Afternoon Coffee
Weirdly enough ever since I stopped being pregnant I have had the strangest cravings for coffee...not so much the caffeine but the taste! I start to crave it especially in the afternoons. I am only drinking decaf Nespresso at the moment, and these cups are very small. I had this one when both babies were napping!

Afternoon Snack
I am actually eating a bit more now compared to when I was pregnant, mostly because breastfeeding makes me super hungry and also because I don't get the dreaded heartburn anymore! (Yay!) When Emilia wakes up from her nap, we eat a snack together. She usually has raisins and I had the same (we get the SunMaid mini boxes) and a Pink Lady apple.

Dinner
For dinner we had chicken korma (prepared by Jonathan of course!) with sweetcorn, basmati rice and Asian veggies. This was pretty delicious :)

Dessert
As you guys know my sweet tooth never lets me skip dessert! My latest obsession has been these white chocolate carrot cake M&Ms that was sent to our PO Box. I don't think you can get them here in Ireland! :( I thank whoever sent them to me so much but I also curse you because now I'm hooked and my supply has been cut off, ha ha ha! I am a big white chocolate fan but these are just on a whole other level!! They are so good! I knew I only had one packet so I actually rationed it into four 2 1/2 oz servings and have been eating them every night for the last 3 nights! I'm so sad that they're gone :( Of course I had to pair them up with a decaf Nespresso. Coffee & chocolate = perfection!

That's what I ate today, I also drank about 2L+ of water. Let me know what you ate! You can watch my What I Ate Wednesday video here!

Throwback Thursday: Living in Munich!

As promised in my First Jobs video, here's a little walk down memory lane to when I was 20 years old & worked as an intern for Ralph Lauren in Munich, Germany! These pictures were all taken when Jonathan & I walked to the Olympia Park (we were renting in an apartment very close by). Above is a heavily edited picture of me that Jonathan made...I used it as my profile pic at the time! It is very photoshopped & makes me look like I have no pores ;)

This was my natural wavy hair - I never used to style it back then!

Don't mind the very orange bronzer... :-/

Of course the pretzels were amazing! Munich is a gorgeous city...I only wish it had been a happier time for me. If you want to know more, watch my First Jobs video here:

Fashion Friday: Family of Four!

Here's my first postpartum outfit of the day! I actually wore this in my 2 week postpartum update with Emilia. It's so comfortable and best of all, it fits! I'm wearing a purple nursing singlet from Boob, my Soaked in Luxury sequin waterfall cardigan and low-rise skinny jeans from Zara. My flats are from New Look and I also have on the bamboo Belly Bandit underneath everything! I have been wearing it non-stop since giving birth last week and I can definitely tell a difference in my tummy already. For accessories, I'm wearing my gold Scorpio necklace from my dad, my Alex & Ani bracelets and Orelia hoops. My lipstick here is Estée Lauder's Pure Color Envy in Desirable.

Emilia's outfit is all from Zara Baby (the lemon hoodie & grey leggings came as a set), her headband & bow are from Layniebug Designs and her shoes are from Clarks!

Here is little Eduardo's first "big boy" outfit! He is wearing a jumper & pants set from Cherokee (which was a gift from Benji & Judy!) and grey socks from Next

Jonathan is showing off his expert boyband poses from circa 1998...ha ha ha! He is wearing Diesel jeans, a T-shirt from Zara, hat from Superdry and Skechers shoes.

I hope you are all having a fantastic Friday and I wish you all a wonderful Easter weekend! You can watch our family outfit of the day video below :)

Style Saturday: Easter Decor!

$

Happy Easter weekend! Here's a little peek inside our home at this year's Easter decor.

Wooden Easter tree with hanging bunnies & chicks - from Brown Thomas (Gisela Graham).

My beautiful bouquet from Cosatto. (This is also where Emilia's "proud sister" balloon came from!) My mom got Emilia the bunny for Easter - it actually lights up like a nightlight! The mini eggs & little watering can are from Brown Thomas and I put some wooden egg decorations in a glass bowl which used to hold a scented candle. My garden calendar was a Christmas gift from my grandmother.

These decorative eggs are from a few different places...the sequin ones & eggs with flowers on were bought at Brown Thomas & the brighter ones are from Hanley's (if I remember correctly!).

My Easter cupcakes! I am actually pretty proud of these...thank god I finally seem to have gotten the hang of how to use my frosting tool! I used a recipe for Springtime Cupcakes from one of my very many cupcake books. These are lemon & vanilla flavour and they made my whole house smell DIVINE! I am obsessed with vanilla scents so these are right up my alley :) So much better than chocolate, in my opinion! And Jonathan tasted one & said they are his favourite cupcakes yet...that's a good sign, folks! He is very fussy about desserts. Here is the recipe that I used in case you guys are interested:

The cupcake cases & bunny toppers were from Brown Thomas.

I also picked up a wooden "Egg Hunt" sign & another Happy Easter decoration from Gisela Graham. Her stuff is so cute! Pleeeease excuse the ridiculously overgrown grass in our back garden but what can I say...I don't take credit for mowing the lawn!! (Or any sort of gardening for that matter!)

Hope you are all having a lovely Easter weekend! I can't wait for Emilia to experience her first proper egg hunt tomorrow ;)

Tuesday
The weather has actually been pretty good lately so Emilia was able to make use of some of her short sleeve t-shirts! This one is so cute from Matalan! Her floral leggings are from Jojo Maman Bébé and her blue bow-bow is from Layniebug Designs. I can't remember where she got these cupcake ankle socks...I think they were a gift! They have little grips underneath them which is always useful!

Wednesday
This little boy turned 1 week old on Wednesday! I love how smart he looks in his "big boy" clothes! These are from Cherokee and came as a set.

Thursday
On Thursday we went to the Mahon Point Farmers Market and finally got the chance to visit La Cocina, a Spanish stall where my mom gets lots of baked goods & pastries. They have always been so good to Emilia and she loves their shortbread men & little heart cookies that they hang off their boxes! The stall is run by two sisters, Silvia & Olga who were kind enough to bake us this amazing strawberry & custard tart to celebrate Eduardo's birth. Jonathan loved it so much he ate about 3/4 - I ate the other 1/4! If you do live in Cork, I definitely recommend you guys check La Cocina out...I don't think you'll be disappointed! Their stuff is really delicious!

Friday
Morning cartoons with my two angels :) This was taken right before Eduardo spat up all down my dressing gown...ah the glamour of motherhood!

Saturday
Emilia wore such a pretty outfit for Easter Saturday! I couldn't resist not sharing :) This "Cute as a Cupcake" t-shirt, tutu & polka dot leggings set is from Matalan, her shoes are from Clarks& her bow is from Layniebug Designs. The lace headband is from Heather's Bonny Bows.

As you guys know from yesterday's post, I baked Easter cupcakes! These were a real hit...but I think the recipe would be even better with some lemon added to the frosting! You can find the recipe I used here.

Sunday
Brace yourselves for a flood of Easter Sunday pictures! I just couldn't stop taking them today...so here you go! Emilia is wearing a peach top & matching cardigan along with floral leggings from The Children's Place. Her cupcake shoes are from Stride Rite and her turquoise bow is by Layniebug

Here is Eduardo's outfit of the day! He is wearing a sweet little Easter-ish babygrow from Gerber. It has yellow chicks, little frogs and turtles on it.

And here's my outfit! I am wearing my Zara skinny jeans, pink ASOS bow flats (bought 3 years ago!), Tommy Hilfiger shirt & a nursing singlet in white from Boob

And lastly, here's Emilia sharing her Easter loot with her baby brother...ha ha ha, yeah right! Thankfully he's not old enough to eat chocolate - is probably what she's thinking right about now ;) She was totally spoiled this Easter. I think she was a little overwhelmed by all the treats she got...we might have to hide everything and ration it out slowly throughout the entire rest of the year!!

Happy Easter everyone!

Mommy Monday: 1 Week Postpartum Update!

Welcome to my 1 week postpartum update! As promised I will be making weekly postpartum updates for the first month, followed by monthly ones for the first year. So if you're interested in that kind of thing, stay tuned!

Recovery
My recovery from this pregnancy compared to the last one has been totally different. I am still so surprised by how much easier & quicker it was! I think there are two main reasons for this. Number one was the fact that I did not get an episiotomy this time...I did have a little tear (two stitches) but the pain did not last very long at all and was virtually gone in a matter of days. With my last recovery I could not sit down comfortably and going to the toilet was a nightmare. This time around I have no such problems, thank god! The second reason is that the breastfeeding has been a LOT easier being that I only stopped 6 months ago, so my boobs were a lot less sensitive. The last time I had cracked & bleeding nipples, I was in so much pain every time Emilia latched on I would cry. The first few days were a little bit painful with Eduardo as my body got used to breastfeeding again but after about day 3 it was plain sailing. As a result of all of this I have been much more active this time around and I felt "normal" much sooner - hence why I felt ready to leave the hospital one day after giving birth!

Don't mind the crease marks...they're from the Belly Bandit!

Body
Here was something else unexpected...I always thought that your body would bounce back faster after your first pregnancy, but in this case it's been the opposite! Just like with my overall recovery, my body has actually bounced back a lot quicker than last time. I think this is largely due to the fact that I'm a lot more active and have been so much busier with two kids rather than just one newborn baby! When you have a toddler, you don't really have much of a choice in the matter...life doesn't stop or slow down and you have to keep up with their routine.

Overall I gained a total of 27lbs this pregnancy. I weighed 142lbs the morning of induction and the day after I left the hospital I had lost about 10lbs. At one week postpartum I have lost a total of 15lbs and my stomach actually looks smaller than it did at 2 weeks postpartum after my first pregnancy! Breastfeeding is definitely the main reason why the weight has been melting off, as well as helping my tummy to go back down & my uterus contract. I have not been dieting at all...in fact I'm probably eating more now than when I was pregnant as I am hungry ALL the time! I also haven't started exercising yet but I do plan to soon!

I have to say that the Belly Bandit has made a big difference as well...last time I only wore it during the day, whereas this time I am wearing it at night as well. I also found that my stretch marks faded almost instantly after giving birth. My bellybutton looks all wrinkly but the stretch marks aren't very visible at all anymore! I am currently slathering on the Bio Oil as well as Bloom & Blossom's Anti Stretch Mark Cream which is amazing stuff! I apply both products day & night and have also been making sure to drink lots of water which helps with skin elasticity. Breastfeeding makes me really thirsty anyway, so I have probably been drinking more than 2L a day!

And here is my smiling little angel at 1 week old! Isn't he a cutie pie :)

Height/Weight: I'm not sure of Eduardo's exact weight at 1 week old but the public health nurse weighed him last Monday and he was 7lbs 6oz which means he had gained back the weight he lost after being born. (When they weighed him at the hospital on Sunday he was 6lbs 10oz). I found this very encouraging as you never know when you're breastfeeding how much milk they are getting! He will be weighed again at his 2 week doctor's appointment. The PHN also took his length measurement which was 19.5 inches...only half an inch longer than Emilia was!

Routine: Ha! Oh how we wish there were a proper routine...but unfortunately there is not. I have tried to get one going just so that Eduardo could be more in sync with his big sister's but I don't think he's really ready yet. He doesn't even follow a 3 hour routine because he is quite a snacky feeder like Emilia was. He tends to feed for very small periods of time which means he won't settle for much longer than 2 hours. This can be annoying when I want to get things done around the house/work-wise but he is still only a tiny baby! So I have been sort of half feeding on demand, half trying to establish some sort of routine if that makes any sense!

So far I think I have got the morning bit of our routine down, but the evenings are still all over the place. I try to feed him at 7am every morning, then Jonathan takes him into our bed while I get showered & ready at 8am. Emilia wakes around 8:30/9am which is when she gets into bed with her daddy & "Ardo" (she loves snuggling with him!). Then Jonathan & I swap and he takes Emilia, I take Eduardo and we go downstairs for breakfast. If Eduardo needs a top-up feed I give it to him while eating my breakfast, otherwise I put him in his bouncer till 10am. I try & still eat breakfast with Emilia every morning because I know she really misses it if I don't! On weekdays my sister Erika comes from 10am-1pm to help look after Emilia which is the sole reason why I've been able to get any kind of work done! I wake Eduardo up for another top-up feed sometime after 11am and then put him down for a nap while I film. He usually gets hungry again at 1pm so I have to feed him...then Emilia has lunch at 2 and I try to have the two of them down for another nap at 2:30/3pm till 4:30/5pm. This is when I get all of my editing/blogging done!

That's kind of where the whole routine ends. Emilia's continues as normal (playtime, dinner, bathtime, bed) and Eduardo feeds & sleeps on demand the rest of the evening. Some days we do bathe the two together but he's still so little, there's no need for him to get washed every night. I have noticed that he settles to sleep better after a relaxing bath though!

Sleeping: Currently Eduardo is waking about twice a night to feed, which I can't complain about at all! I am actually getting a lot more sleep than I thought I would be. I mean, it's still not a lot but it's not as bad as I had anticipated. During the day he naps in his bouncer seat/swing downstairs as this is in our living area where I tend to be for most of the day. At night he sleeps in his co-sleeper and feeds in bed with me.

Eating/Feeding: I am exclusively breastfeeding again, just like with Emilia. In the beginning when we were in the hospital Eduardo did seem to feed longer & a lot more than Emilia did. However when my milk came in on Day 3, he changed and became more like her...feeding for about 5 minutes at a time and more frequently - as I mentioned above. I am definitely looking forward to when he will go a bit longer between feeds, just because at the moment it can be exhausting!

Sizes: At the moment Eduardo is wearing all size Newborn. He has grown out of one of his babygrows and his vests are getting a little bit tight but he's definitely not ready for 0-3 months size yet. He's tiny! He is wearing size 1 nappies and we're using Pampers "New Baby" just like with Emilia!

Milestones: Smiling...even though it's usually in his sleep or when he's pooping/got gas!

That's all I have to report one week in! I hope I covered everything, but if you have any questions please leave them below! You can watch my 1 Week Postpartum Update video here:

Beauty Tuesday: Favourite Nude Lipsticks!

Time and time again I get asked "what are you wearing on your lips?" or "what are your top favourite lipsticks?" and to be perfectly honest, I don't switch up my lip colour that often...in fact I usually alternate between a very select few. Nude lipstick has always been my go-to lip colour of choice and although some may think that they all look the same, I'm here to prove them wrong! So here are six of my all-time favourite nude lipsticks which can almost always be found in my handbag.

They are: (from left to right, and in order of preference!)

Estée Lauder Pure Color Envy Lipstick Desirable
Rimmel Kate Lipstick 03
Rimmel Airy Fairy Lipstick
Estée Lauder Pure Color Lipstick Crystal Baby
Revlon Lip Butter 001 Pink Truffle
MAC Creme Cup

And here they are swatched!

Top Row (L-R):

EL Desirable
Rimmel 03
Rimmel Airy Fairy

Bottom Row (L-R):

EL Crystal Baby
Revlon Pink Truffle
MAC Creme Cup

And finally, here is what each lipstick looks like on my lips!

Estée Lauder Desirable
My top favourite right now - this is a true nude! Not too pink, not too peach...it looks good with virtually anything!

Rimmel Kate 03
This is definitely a warm toned, brown-ish nude with an orange undertone. I like to wear it with warmer colours like browns, beige, olive, khakis and it also goes well with blues & denim.

Rimmel Airy Fairy
The total opposite of Kate 03 - this is a cool toned pinkish nude which goes great with greys & soft cool pinks/blues.

Estée Lauder Crystal Baby
This is a "brighter" nude, at least on my colouring! I like to wear this in the summer with more of a tan :) I also think it goes well with pinks! Apparently Claudia Schiffer wore this lipstick on her wedding day. It is a gorgeous colour!

Revlon Lip Butter 001 Pink Truffle
Probably the darkest of all the nudes I'm showing here...this looks almost like a berry shade on my colouring! I love this one in the summer too when I wear brighter colours & have more of a tan.

MAC Creme Cup
This used to be a #1 favourite of mine, and it is still pretty but I find MAC lipsticks are a bit drying. I love the smell of them though! This is a very 60's mod nude lip, definitely very cool-toned and I like to wear it more in the winter when I wear lots of greys, blacks & monochrome.

You can watch my Favourite Nude Lipsticks video here!

I hope this post was helpful! Let me know your favourite nude lipstick shade, I am always on the lookout for more to add to my collection!

What I Ate Wednesday {Easter Edition!}

This week I thought I would show you guys what I ate on Easter Sunday! I always think it's interesting to learn about different cultures & holiday food traditions...my own family is a bit of a mixed bag! So here's what we ate this Easter.

Breakfast
Since I can remember, we have always eaten the same thing for breakfast on Easter Sunday - La Colomba! It's a traditional Italian "cake" or "sweet bread" would probably be a better way of describing it. There are three types that we generally eat on different holidays, at Christmas it's either Pandoro or Panettone but Colomba is definitely my favourite! It has candied fruit on the inside and a sugar crust with almonds on it. It tastes amazing with a cup of coffee in the morning! This was also Emilia's first time having Colomba and she loved it, although she didn't eat a lot...actually I think she quickly figured out that the crust was the best part - ha ha ha! Along with my big hunk of a slice I had a Nespresso Vanilia and a pint of water with apple flavoured Spatone.

Lunch
Lunch was nothing special, as we had plans to eat at my mom's later that evening so we didn't make a big deal. There were no full size ciabatta bread-rolls left so I had two of Emilia's mini ones with tuna made with light mayo & melted cheese (basically a tuna melt) and some slices of cucumber on the side! I also drank another big pint of water.

Afternoon Coffee
I drank a cup of Nespresso Vivalto Lungo (I ran out of decaf, but these are only level 4 - very weak!) while catching up on some editing & blogging during Emilia & Eduardo's naptime. I actually didn't eat any snack after that as I was pretty full after lunch.

We went to my mom's house for dinner...this was her Easter table setting!

Dinner
Usually we have roast lamb with potatoes & peas for Easter dinner but this year my mom made something different! She used a recipe from her Two Greedy Italians cookbook - Agnello con Piselli Freschi (lamb with fresh peas) which was sort of a stew. It was absolutely delicious! Yum yum :) To drink I had...yes, you guessed it. More water!

Dessert
For dessert we had apple tart from La Cocina - a beautiful apple custard pastry which I've featured on WIAW before!

After we got home that evening I had another Nespresso Vivalto...it also occurred to me that I never ate any chocolate! I have since gotten stuck into my stash, but I wanted to share what I got :) My mom gave me a white chocolate Lindt Gold Bunny & Jonathan gave me a Lir White Chocolate Pearl & Butterfly Egg. Can you tell I love white chocolate...ha ha.

To drink during the whole day I had about 2L+ water. And that's it! Let me know what you eat for Easter! You can watch this week's What I Ate video here!

Throwback Thursday: Daddy Daughter Love

Since he's been born a good few people have commented that Eduardo looks like me, but for some reason I could never really see the resemblance...until I came across this picture! I think he looks like a mix between Jonathan & my dad (and sometimes I see my brother in him too) and while I can definitely see Emilia more in a lot of my baby pictures, this one looks like Eduardo to me! What do you guys think?

I have this framed in my room - I think it captures the daddy daughter bond perfectly! <3

Also, my Ask Anna video went live today! In this episode I talk about topics like sibling jealousy, religion & family planning! If you are interested you can check it out below!

Fashion Friday: Mother Tucker

Here is another OOTD at 2 weeks postpartum! This was my first time wearing the Mother Tucker pants from Belly Bandit. Initially I was a bit unsure about how comfortable these would feel on, as they look teeny tiny! But the material is actually incredibly stretchy so they are very comfy & easy to wear. They suck everything in including your belly, bum, thighs & legs and the material is thicker than regular leggings so they give you a lot more coverage! I'm obsessed with them...I could live in these! I love that they make my body feel much more toned & less jiggly!

My tank top is a nursing singlet from Boob, my cardigan is by Senes Paris and my shoes are from New Look. I'm wearing MAC Creme Cup on my lips & Leighton Denny Babydoll on my nails!

Emilia is all in pastels today! She is wearing her new jumper& jeans from Next, a pink bow from Layniebug Designs& lace headband from Heather's Bonny Bows and her canvas cupcake shoes from Start Rite (similar style here).

Eduardo is wearing a babygrow from Ted Baker...and taking important business calls on his imaginary phone! ;)

And here's the video we made!

I hope you are all having a fabulous Friday!
