Blogmas Day 22: Cupcakes Galore!

$

We spent most of today out Christmas shopping so Emilia kept it pretty comfy in this super soft stripy pink hoody from Next, matching pink headband and some ridiculously cute bunny slippers from Jellycat!  Jonathan just about died of cuteness overload when he saw them!  He has a thing for baby shoes...ha ha ha!

Here I am drinking my (much-needed) bowl cup of coffee in Costa before we braved the chaos and insanity that is last-minute Christmas shopping...ugh.  Remind me next year NOT to leave it all to the last minute!  Having said that it actually wasn't as stressful as I had anticipated and I managed to get most of it done (with the exception of Jonathan...who still remains the most impossible person on the planet to shop for).  So it looks like I'll have to repeat this craziness again tomorrow or maybe even Christmas Eve - not looking forward to that!!

I didn't get a chance to post this yesterday but I received this amazing gift from a lovely subscriber called Shannon, all the way from Oklahoma!  Yes, this beautiful little cupcake tree survived its trip to Ireland.  Thankfully Shannon wrapped her really well :)  What a wonderful gift and it goes perfectly with my cupcake room!  We have the most thoughtful and kind subscribers/viewers - thank you so much to all of you who watch our videos, leave nice comments & tweets, send messages and letters.  We really appreciate every single one of you!

We indulged in a little bit of naughty Christmas food shopping recently...and here is one of my picks!  White Cadbury's fingers - the best evening treat!

I will leave you with what I think are probably my favourite pyjamas ever - Emilia has been covered with cupcakes!  These even have little pink frills on the bum...ha ha ha!  I love them!  Thank you Michael for sending them to us! :)

Blogmas Day 23: Plätzchen Baking!

Today was the fourth Sunday of Advent!  Here's how my wreath looked all lit up this morning.  So pretty!  I can't believe how fast this month has gone!

Emilia wore her new pink top & pussycat leggings from two lovely subscribers Chloe & Shannon, pink socks and pink & yellow hairbow from Layniebug Designs.  The entire outfit is from Tesco (F&F).  She is so smiley in the mornings!  I love her chubby little legs...ha ha ha!

This was my lunch - homemade tuna wrap with light mayo, cucumber, tomato & lettuce!  Yummy!

The pups all tired out after their walk this afternoon...I was so glad to fit one in.  Due to all of the Christmas preparations and rushing around shops, family events etc. they hadn't been walked in a few days and I felt really bad for them :(  Thankfully the weather was nice today and they all enjoyed a long walk!

We went to my mom's house for dinner tonight and afterwards we baked plätzchen!!  It was so nice to share this tradition with Emilia, even if she is too small to even notice or remember.  Jonathan had fun participating in the rolling out of the dough and although he was responsible for a few mangled shapes and club-footed gingerbread men, they all turned out alright in the end...ha ha ha!  We also got news that my brother is coming to visit with his girlfriend in January - yay!  I can't wait for them to meet Emilia :)

And for all you Bianca fans out there...this is what happens when she hijacks my phone.  You have to be able to understand lisp/Bianca-talk to read these messages!!  She really liked my sister's shiny pants.

I hope you guys are enjoying the last few days leading up to Christmas!  Do you have all your shopping done?!  I am going out again tomorrow with my sister to shop for Jonathan's present!  Wish me luck!!

Blogmas Day 24: Christmas Eve!

It's Christmas Eve!!  Which marks the end of Blogmas...I hope you enjoyed my daily posts as much as I did writing them!  Even if I did spend most nights attempting to balance Emilia on a boob while rushing to get them written, having left it all to the last minute when we're all tucked up in bed and suddenly I'd spring up shouting "MY BLOG POST!!!!".  But last minute seems to be the theme we're going with this year, as you will discover further down in this post!  I will endeavour to blog more after this though...if not everyday then certainly most days of the week but the posts will probably be more varied.  Please let me know what you'd like to see/read on my blog going forward - I would love to know your thoughts! :)

Emilia and I spent the entire day shopping with my sister Erika (well, Emilia slept and we shopped!) so I dressed her in this cute little pink top that Erika got her before she was born!  I remember being moved to tears when she bought it because it was right after we paid her for walking the dogs and the first thing she did was go out and spend the money on Emilia...okay I may have been a little hormonal as well being quite heavily pregnant at the time but still - it was so sweet!!  That's my baby sister buying gifts for my baby...the very thought reduced me to a sobbing emotional wreck!!

The teddy bear top is from TK Maxx and I can't remember where the white leggings are from.  The stripy pink and white shoes were a gift from two subscribers of ours but sadly Theo had his way with them so we had to put them in a safe(r) place!  The pink hairbow is from Layniebug Designs.

After our hard day's shopping we treated ourselves to some lunch in Nando's...Emilia slept through that too!!  She misses all the good stuff!  I ordered the butterfly chicken, corn on the cob & a side salad!  Shopping on Christmas Eve was everything I had expected it to be - absolute madness.  And like a complete idiot I put off buying wrapping paper to the very last minute and by the time we got to Tesco all of their Christmas stock was GONE.  It was as if Christmas was over and had never even happened!! :(  I couldn't believe it!  Jonathan miraculously salvaged a dusty roll of paper underneath one of the aisles...it was a bit crumpled but in a moment of panic I bought it anyway!  As far as I was concerned this was the last roll of wrapping paper on earth!  Luckily we found some more rolls at the local Spar (total cheap "rip-when-you-look-at-it" paper but it was wrapping paper nonetheless) and I had bows from when I last bought supplies for Jonathan's family.  UGH...what a mess!!!  Next year will be so much better, I promise ;)

And here are the presents all lovely and wrapped under our tree.  The house is clean (or at least, for the most part!), the floors have been vacuumed/mopped, the bedsheets are freshly washed, the baby/puppies are asleep and Santa Claus/Paws has already been :)  We are finally ready for Christmas!

I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas tomorrow and that Santa comes to your family too :)  Lots of love to all of you!  Thank you so much for sticking with me through Blogmas!

Merry Christmas!

As 2012 comes to a close, I thought I'd share some pictures with you from Emilia's first Christmas!  We had a wonderful, relaxing day and hope you did too!

Our presents "under" the tree (unfortunately we can't really put them under it as the puppies would rip them to shreds!!)

Emilia all dolled up in her Christmas outfit!  She looked so cute watching cartoons but then she fell asleep right before we opened our presents, ha ha ha!

Jonathan got me Hunter boots!

Playing with his new keyboard :)

The puppies loved opening their presents the most!

Albi got an ice-cream cone...ha ha ha!

Theo opening his present!

Bianca...just being Bianca!

Nivea

Nivea is obsessed with Albi...ha ha ha!

Hope you enjoyed this little snippet of our day!  You can watch Emilia's Christmas haul video here ;)  Stay safe tonight and Happy New Year!

What I Got For Christmas!

From my mama - some items for our new dresser in the master bedroom.  Both from Monsoon Home.

Here are some of the lovely presents I got this Christmas :)  I appreciate everything I received and if I left something out, it's either because I forgot or didn't think it would be relevant to my blog.  (I tried to keep everything fashion/beauty/home decor related but I did also get a few kitchen items that I didn't show here!)

Two L.K. Bennett cardigans also from my mom.  (Sorry the pink one is a bit crumpled, I had just washed it and it needs to be ironed!!)  The black one is the Tiger Jacquard Knit Cardigan and I love the peplum detailing, plus it's perfect for breastfeeding...ha ha ha!  And the pink one is the Bello Cardigan in Watermelon.  I wore this a few days ago with my brown skinnies and some nude wedge boots, it looked really cute!

My big present from Jonathan - Regent Savoy Hunter boots!  I didn't even realise he was so cunning...I had been eyeing these up for a loooong time!  He also got me some welly socks for inside but they are in the wash ;)

Pink star-shaped glass candle-holder and gold Barry M Nail Paint from my sister Erika.

Blue star lantern and nude & black spotty bracelet from my sister Emma :)  I don't know where these are from because I think she bought them in Germany, sorry!

Cupcake tea-pot from my sister Erika - she got this at TK Maxx.  It's sooo cute!

Framed paintings from my Oma.  The tree is for Emilia.  I think the other two are going in our bathrooms, they're quite nautical!

Christmas pyjamas from my mom (Tesco F&F)!

And lastly, a little pocket mirror from my mom for my handbag with a tiny pic of me with my dad when I was about 11/12 years old (I think!).  Don't mind the grumpy face - typical moody pre-teen, ha ha ha! ;)  I think she got this in Easons...I'm not 100% sure.

Hope you enjoyed this post and Happy New Year to everyone!

Weekend Recap & My New Year's Resolutions!

I'm sorry I haven't blogged in a bit but we had a busy weekend with my brother & his girlfriend visiting so here is a little recap of what we got up to!

Emilia wore my favourite outfit when we drove to the airport to collect my brother - this faded pink & grey tutu from Next, complete with little ballet "shoes" on the tights!  So cute!  I will be so sad when she grows out of it!

Me waiting at the airport drinking some Cork Coffee Roasters coffee - our favourite!  I was so excited for Emilia to meet her zio (uncle) Stefano for the first time and I think he actually really liked her even though he is not a babies person ;)

I received this beautiful gift from my brother & his girlfriend - it has Emilia engraved on one side of the heart and her birth date on the other.  I love it so much!  I will treasure it forever!  (And maybe add another heart soon too ;)

Emilia napping in mommy & daddy's bed...I love her cupcake pj's and how small she looks in our bed, ha ha ha!  She was pretty zonked after the whole weekend...I think she's still recovering!

Emilia with her zio Stefano.  I was actually really sad I didn't get a better picture of this outfit...it was so cute!  She was all dressed in Zara but we had this total star theme going on!  She wore her red Christmas cardigan with little gold star buttons, grey leggings with a tiny star on the side, a grey star shirt & light grey socks with stars on them...ha ha ha!  We bought everything separately but it all worked so well together :)  And to top it off she wore her red hair bow from Layniebug Designs.

On Saturday we had lunch in Kinsale and I couldn't resist snapping this picture of her in her stroller...she looked soooo cute!  Her grey owl hat is from my mom (Baby Gap) and she is obsessed with the Lamaze princess doll that's lying in front of her.  She has a crinkly skirt...that's her favourite bit!

Onto my New Year's Resolutions - I know I'm kind of behind with this post but I wanted to get it out there anyway.  So here goes:

1. Learn to drive
Ughhhhh...now that I've said it out loud I will have to make it happen, right?!  I hate everything about driving and it's always been a thing I've known I should do but I never really committed to it till now.  Actually it's becoming a mom that has changed my perspective on this and I realise it's an important skill I want to have.  Mostly because I am no longer responsible just for myself, but for Emilia as well and I don't want to rely on anybody else because you never know what might happen!  So step one is to pass my theory test, which I failed 5 years ago and just gave up on...ahh!  This is going to be a long journey but I know I can do it!

2. Eat healthy 5 days a week
It really annoys me that I made a verrrry similar goal to this last year, ha ha ha!  Clearly I didn't stick to it well enough!!  Okay, I'll admit that when I was pregnant I ate very healthy.  But once I had given birth to Emilia I found myself becoming lazy and eating fewer fruits/veggies, more junk and things like that.  Once again I think this has to do with me feeling responsible for the health of my baby when she was inside me = eat healthy, versus being responsible for the health of myself = eat whatever.  Does that make sense?!  Anyway, the reality is I'm not going to eat perfectly healthy every single day but five out of seven days a week is manageable!

3. Upload videos 3-5 days a week/Blog 5 days a week
I want to get back into regular uploading/blogging and I feel like last year I was pretty good at it until around the time I had Emilia and my whole life changed!  But now that we've gotten into more of a schedule it seems easier to get back on track.  So I am going to endeavour to upload 3-5 days a week on TheStyleDiet which will consist of the following: Mommy Mondays - a mom/baby related video.  These have taken the place of my pregnancy vlogs and are basically where I talk about anything to do with Emilia (like monthly updates, favourites etc.) and being a mommy.  What I Ate Wednesdays - I am bringing these back by popular demand!  If you don't already know about these it's just where I vlog what I eat in a day...if it's not WIAW one Wednesday, it will probably be another diet/cooking related video but you all know how my cooking skills are so I expect those will be few & far between!  Fridays will be Ask Anna, a video series I'm also bringing back from last year.  These are where I either answer your guys' questions or talk about a particular topic you have asked me for my opinions/advice on.  You can ask me questions either in comments on my blog/YouTube channel or on Twitter with the hashtag #AskAnna.  I will try to answer as many questions as I can! :)  Tuesdays & Thursdays will most likely be beauty/fashion related videos because I have NOT forgotten about those.  I am not promising that there will always be a video up on these days but I will do my best and at least you guys can always rely on Mon-Wed-Fri for some kind of content anyway ;)

With regards my blog, I am going to try my very hardest to get posts up 5 days a week (Mon-Fri).  Some days they will go along with whatever video I post and other days they will be more personal...it just depends on the day.

4. Get pregnant (again!)
Okay so last year my resolution was to have a baby in 2012 and while I would love to do the same in 2013 I have to be realistic...Jonathan and I have always wanted our babies to be close together in age (as close as possible, actually) but I am exclusively breast feeding Emilia and plan on doing so until she is 12 months old which means I have no idea when it will happen.  I don't think I have ovulated yet and I certainly haven't had a period so it's difficult to tell :(  My mom and her brother (my uncle) were 10 months apart and the close relationship they had was wonderful...I would love the same thing for my kids.  We shall see what 2013 will bring for our little family!

Well, I hope you enjoyed this very personal & honest post...sorry it was so long!  Please feel free to post your New Year's Resolutions below - it's not too late, promise! ;)

It's Going to Be A Ruff Night...

Today all of our little furry monsters got their monthly wash, cut & blow-dry!  Here they are all bundled up in the back of the car...actually they look like they're in prison with the grate up, ha ha!  We got them cut a bit differently this time - kind of a puppy cut with one length all over and I really like it!

Here they are after their day of pampering...what little cuties!  Can you guess who's who?!  To make it easier for you, Albi got a dark blue bow, Sina got hot pink, Theo got baby blue and the three girl puppies got yellow :)

Last night right before her bath, Emilia sat up by herself!  It only lasted about 2 seconds...but it was so adorable, even more so because she did it in all her chubby rolls of cuteness :) Check out the video of her sitting up in today's vlog here.

Here's the little princess in her sweet new pj's from a lovely subscriber Kelly.  I absolutely love them!  The lighting in this pic doesn't really do them justice but they're a raspberry pink with a doggy on them an "Ruff Night" written underneath.  They are size 3-6 months (fit like a glove!) and are by Hatley, which is a brand I had never heard of before but now that I've seen some of their stuff I'm obsessed!

I hope you guys are having a great week so far!  I am uploading my new Style Diet video as I type this...it will be up & ready for your viewing pleasure very soon! :)

What I Ate Wednesday!

A bit late, but better late than never!  This was breakfast - my usual meal of Alpen Apple Raspberry & Raisin porridge, 1/2 banana and a sprinkle of cinnamon.  Plus a giant cup of coffee to wake me up! :)

Lunch was one of my personal favourites - a tuna wrap!  I made this using a "White & Wheat" deli wrap, canned tuna, light mayo, tomatoes, cucumber & lettuce.  Delicious!

My afternoon snack was a Pink Lady apple and low-fat yoghurt.  Blueberry's my least favourite flavour but unfortunately it was the last one in the fridge...blueberry is always the last one to go, ha ha ha!  Peach and strawberry are gone first! :)

Dinner time!  I had spinach cannelloni and no they're not home-made :(  Sorry...these are from one of our favourite restaurants called Bully's.  Maybe one day I'll learn to make them myself!

I tried really hard to say no to dessert, but you know me and my sweet tooth!! ;) Plus Bully's do this amazing cheesecake, I think it's just called "Bully's Cheesecake" and it is so good!  Yum yum, just looking at it makes me want another slice!

I also drank about 2L of water today and had another sneaky cup of coffee after lunch.  What did you eat today?

xoxo

Best of Beauty 2012!

Sorry these photos aren't great, I didn't get a chance to take them earlier so all natural light was gone! :(  Here are my top make-up picks from 2012!  I thought long and hard about these and came up with my absolute must-have items.

Foundation: Estee Lauder Double Wear
This is my favourite long-wearing foundation.  It covers everything, lasts all day, gives a totally matte finish and although it is very thick a little bit goes a long way.  I wore this while giving birth and it didn't budge...I think that really put it to the test!

Concealer: Vichy Dermablend
This is also marketed as a stick foundation but I use it as a concealer and have loved it ever since I got a sample in one of my Glossyboxes last year.  It covers all pigmentation, acne scars and spots plus it's very long-lasting!  I did try to use this as a foundation as well but found it too oily for the whole face.

Powder: Rimmel Stay Matte
I absolutely love this powder!  When used in combination with the foundation & concealer, this gives my face a perfectly matte finish which doesn't need to be touched up throughout the day.  (I have oily/combination skin by the way!)  It's super affordable too and works like a charm!

Bronzer: Sarah G Cosmetics Bronzer (Face Kit)
I am using Benefit Hoola now but I used my Sarah G one for the majority of last year and I would say it's the same in terms of quality, long-wear, pigmentation and tone.  I use this as a contour, it's totally matte, matches my skin perfectly and lasts all day long!  You can purchase it on its own here.

Blush: Nars Orgasm
I don't know why it took me so long to discover this cult product!  I purchased this pretty late in the year but it's become a firm staple in my collection.  It's the perfect shade of peachy pink with golden shimmer undertones that are subtle enough to leave your cheeks looking glowy rather than glittery.

Brows: HD Brow Kit Vamp
Moving onto eyes, another year meant another HD Brows kit!  This time I got the Vamp one and ended up making a strong dent in the shade dark brown.  This is by far the best brow powder I've ever used.  It's highly pigmented and a little goes a long way!  Very long-lasting and totally matte, matches my colouring perfectly!

Eyeliner: Avon SuperShock Gel Eyeliner (Black)
This is the best eyeliner I have ever tried!  I even purchased the Urban Decay 24/7 liner in Perversion to see what all the hype was about but it didn't compare to this one.  The Avon SuperShock is extremely pigmented, doesn't smudge, tear or budge throughout the day and gives a strong black line with even the lightest application.  I love this!

Mascara: CoverGirl LashBlastVolume
This has not changed since 2011.  It is the best mascara in my opinion!  It gives your lashes tons of length, volume and is a real winner!  If you can't get your hands on this, I do recommend MaxFactor False Lash Effect Mascara as a dupe/UK version of this.

Eyeshadow: Urban Decay Naked 2 Palette
I'm a total palettes girl and a big fan of the Naked 1!  I was not disappointed when I picked this up in June.  Filled with amazing quality shadows that last all day, a big variety of neutral colours that suit all skin types and a selection of both matte & shimmer shades.  My personal favourites were Bootycall, Verve and Pistol.

Lipstick: FYF Coy & Chanel Rouge Coco Superstition
Sorry about the awful state of my Coy lipstick, this particular one actually melted and got smushed at some point...ha ha ha!  It's also about my 3rd bullet, as this is possibly my favourite lipstick shade of all-time!  It was my wedding lipstick and I even wore it when I gave birth in September!!  It's the perfect mix of nude & pink - very Brigitte Bardot!  Superstition is a beautiful shimmery summer nude with gold flecks in it.

Lip Butters: Revlon Lip Butters Creme Brulee and Cotton Candy
I couldn't just pick two lipsticks as I had quite a few favourites last year!  These Revlon Lip Butters were big hits especially over the summer.  Cotton Candy is a frosted pink which looks great with a tan and Creme Brulee is a buttery nude.  Both are super moisturising and soft.  Love them!

Lipgloss: Revlon Bellini and Chanel 297 Sweet Beige
Revlon Bellini is a surprisingly opaque creamy nude which can be worn alone without a lipstick and still looks great!  Sweet Beige looks best paired up with Superstition in my opinion, as they're a perfect match!  Again it's a nude gloss but with gold shimmer in it.

Nail Polish: Zoya Barbie & Essie Fiji
I sort of stopped painting my nails after I had Emilia because I found myself with no time, but when I was pregnant I wore it a lot and changed up the colour about twice a week!  These were my favourite summer shades (only because I stopped wearing polish in the autumn/winter, otherwise I'd have some darker shades in here too!).  Barbie is the perfect barbie pink (go figure!) and Fiji is a gorgeous opaque marshmallow colour.

Brushes: Sedona Lace Midnight Lace Set
These are actually pink synthetic brushes which are looking rather dirty as I had just used them this morning!  In fact I use these everyday.  I absolutely love the flat-top brush for applying foundation and the rounded one can be used to apply cream blush but I use it for concealer/ to get into any corners or crevices.  The kabuki has been a firm favourite since the year before, and I use it to apply my powder blush!  You also get an angled brush in this set which is not pictured.  I am giving away the Midnight Lace set on my Best of Beauty video so keep a look-out for that! ;)

I hope you found this post helpful!  What were your beauty faves of 2012?

OOTD: Peplum At Last!

$

I was so upset when the peplum trend became big last spring/summer.  It was as if everywhere I looked ridiculously cute dresses & tops with their beautiful cinched in waist-lines and flared hips were taunting me from the shop windows...but sadly peplum + a pregger do not equal a pretty sight.  So now that I'm not pregnant anymore I can finally embrace the trend - yay! :)

I really love this tiger print L.K. Bennett cardigan which was a Christmas present from my mom...but it is very high-maintenance.  It sheds quite a lot and requests to be hand washed, what a diva!  Ha ha ha...but she is very pretty so we'll forgive her ;)

I'm also wearing my ASOS jeggings (very old), Hunter Regent Savoy boots (sans the socks today) and my new Tiffany's bracelet with Emilia's name & DOB on the heart.  And in case you're wondering, I still can't find my necklace :(  I have searched high & low for it but it just seems to have disappeared!  I won't give up though...I'll keep looking!

Hope you're all having a great weekend.  If you're interested I also uploaded an Ask Anna video today - and if you like you can check out my other vids from this week: My New Year's Resolutions, PO Box Presents, My Daily Diet and Best of Beauty 2012!

Emilia's 4 Month Update!

4 Months Old!

Emilia is officially 4 months old!  I can't believe how big she has gotten, babies really do grow SO fast!  I thought I'd start doing more "organised" monthly updates from now on as we seem to have slipped into a more normal routine nowadays and I have more time to blog.  So here goes!

Height/Weight: Emilia weighed a whopping 15lbs last time we checked (which was about 2 weeks ago)!!  What a little chunk!  Ha ha ha :)  I have no idea how long/tall she is but I will try and update that after our doctor's visit this month.

14 Weeks Old

Daily: As I mentioned previously we have gotten into some kind of a routine now which is nice because it's something we can both rely on!  She takes quite regular naps although is known to sleep more some days which I tend to let her do...I don't really see the point in waking her when she's fast asleep!  She normally naps the best (and longest) in her swing, although she doesn't mind taking her early morning one in her crib and sometimes will go down in it again in the afternoon but never for very long.

Emilia will stay awake now for much longer periods of time which is a lot of fun!  She loves to play on her mat, try to roll over (from back to side), kick her legs and has even started holding and sucking on her toys.  She is a very content, smiley baby and will happily entertain herself for long periods of time, cooing and babbling away...it's so cute!

15 Weeks Old

Bedtime: We have a pretty standard bedtime routine put into place which basically involves a bath with mommy (or a shower with daddy if we're stuck for time!), lotion, change into pj's and a big feed.  She usually sleeps while we eat dinner, watch TV and then wakes up again right before we go to bed.  Then I change her nappy and feed her to sleep in bed with me.  This is also when I read her a bedtime story.  She is still sleeping in our bed but has shown some interest in the co-sleeper which is attached to my side so we may transition her into there and see how that goes!  She also "dream-feeds" throughout the night which doesn't bother me at all because I don't really feel like I'm waking up to do it as she's right beside me!

16 Weeks Old

Eating: I am still exclusively breast-feeding!  And we both love it :) Emilia usually feeds about 6 times a day but it does vary a little bit depending on the day.  She doesn't fall asleep on the boob as much as she used to when she was really little but she still likes to "snack" where she'll feed for a  while and then stop but come back for more in a few minutes.  She has never been the kind of baby to feed for 20-45 minutes at a time...maybe that's why she's still feeding through the night?  I don't know!

17 Weeks Old!

Sizes: Right now Emilia is at a very annoying "in-between" stage where most of her 3-6 clothes are too small but 6-9 month clothing is all too big!  I wish she'd either grow or shrink a little bit, ha  ha ha!  She is also wearing size 3 in nappies (European sizes, not American).  We either use Pampers Active-Fit or Baby Dry.

4 Months Old

Milestones:
  • Rolling over!  She rolled from her tummy to her back and it was so adorable!
  • Learning to "talk".  She now babbles, coos and gurgles to herself all the time.  She even lets out an odd shriek here and there which frightens all her furry brothers & sisters ;)
  • Playing with/holding onto her toys.  She especially loves touching/playing with her Brightstars links and Lamaze princess.
  • Putting things into her mouth. She will now consciously put her links or teething toys into her mouth and suck on them.
  • Teething.  No sign of any teeth yet but we had a couple of rough nights this month where poor Emilia was teething and we gave her some Teetha (which is just Camomile in powder form) to soothe her gums.  That seems to have worked the best and thankfully she's back to her normal happy self!
  • Big belly laughs!  These are the best in the world...she tends to have bouts of laughter where she'll just sit and laugh at the same thing (us pulling funny faces at her or making some kind of a silly noise usually!) over and over again.
  • Sitting up more.  She is not sitting up by herself yet but it is definitely her favourite position to be in!  She likes to be propped up by cushions or pillows and will give a huge gummy smile as soon as she is moved to an upright position!

I think that just about covers everything!  Let me know if you like this format of posting and don't forget to watch my 4 Month Update video which will be up on my channel later this evening! :)

My Makeup Collection/Storage!

$
0
0

This is how I currently store all of my makeup except for what I wear everyday (that lives in my makeup bag which is usually on the dresser in our bedroom).  Everything else is stored in my cupcake room!  This most likely will only work if your collection is about the same size as mine...if you have hundreds of lipsticks & blushes then maybe not.  But my collection is relatively small (compared to most beauty vloggers/gurus on YouTube I think!) so this system works well for me!

Most of my collection is stored in labelled Glossboxes which stack neatly in the shelves of my desk (from Argos, last year).  Here's a look inside...

Lipgloss, Lipstick, Foundation
Liners & mascara, Eyeshadow palettes, Eyeshadow
Nail Polishes - Pinks, Reds & Other
Mani/Pedi, Bath Products, Skincare Samples

I store my blushes & bronzers in a big tin which I got in our favourite Italian shop, The Boot Specialities about 2 years ago.  I think there was a Colomba inside but I loved the tin and it has pictures of makeup on it so it's perfect!

(I also store my highlighters in here as well)

Finally, I have one last box that came in a set of three from Meadows & Byrne which I purchased about 3 years ago where I store all of my big eyeshadow palettes.

The tin and set of 3 boxes sit under the two end tables at either side of the bed in this room.

And that is how I store my makeup!  You can also watch the video on my makeup collection and storage here!  I understand that putting things into boxes like this may not be as practical for everybody especially if you reach for different items a lot more often than I do (I tend to use the same products everyday).  But for now I really like this storage system as I find it to be budget-friendly, a good use of Glossyboxes and I love how everything has its own place.  Let me know what you think!  And if you subscribe to Glossybox, what do you use your old boxes for?

Today I felt really sick so I didn't eat much in the afternoon as I ended up taking a long nap in between lunch & dinner! :(  I'm hoping I didn't catch whatever Jonathan had...unfortunately Emilia seems to have gotten a cough, poor little thing!  Anyway, here's what I ate for breakfast: Alpen raspberry, apple & raisin porridge with almond milk, 1/2 banana and cinnamon.  And my big cup of coffee :)

For lunch I had a tuna wrap with tomato, cucumber and light mayo - I show you how I make this in my video!

We ate dinner at my mom's house and thankfully I felt much better after a long nap!  She made a delicious fish pie accompanied by a leafy salad!

My mama also baked one of my all-time favourite desserts, Pear Auflauf (pear upside down cake)!  I had second helpings it was so good!  Served with whipped cream...mmm :)

What did you eat today?

Out and About with The Family!

Sorry I didn't get a chance to post yesterday!  I had wanted to do a home decor post but we spent most of the day out running errands and by the time we came home it was dark and the lighting would have been crappy so I might do it tomorrow instead!  While we were having lunch Emilia had her first "people-watching" experience in Mahon Point...it was so cute!  She couldn't seem to understand how there were people walking underneath us, ha ha ha!  I also made a Keek of her enjoying the view - check it out here

I picked up a few beauty items yesterday...check out Jofus photo bombing my haul, ha ha ha! ;)  My Dumb Blonde Shampoo & Conditioner has run out and I'm looking for something different so I'm going to try Aussie for a change - never used it before!  I've heard great things though, so I hope I'm not disappointed ;)  Stocked up on a few basics as well - OralB 3D White toothpaste (the best!), Estee Lauder Double Wear foundation AND concealer.  I received a sample of the concealer and I love it for under the eyes!  And finally, just some Dove Indulgent Body Lotion with Shea Butter...pretty boring but it's probably my favourite for everyday.

I also got some Karvol capsules, recommended by my mom for poor Emilia.  She appears to have caught Jonathan's bug and is coughing/congested with a stuffy nose :(  Poor little thing...I feel so sorry for her!  I put some drops of Karvol on her blankie and my pillow, which she doesn't really sleep on but more like next to it.  Anyway thankfully it seems to be helping!

Today she was feeling much better - yay!  I cannot believe she is already wearing 6 months and some 6-9 month clothing!!  Here she has on 6-9 in BabyGap.  Eek!  She is growing so fast!  I loved so many of her 3-6 clothes, it was so sad putting them all away :( Her bow is by Layniebug Designs and the star socks are from Zara.

It was a beautiful day today so we made the most of it and took all the dogs for a long walk.  Emilia and I only came for Albi & Sina's though as we didn't want to keep her out for too long.  She really enjoyed looking at all the trees and we even met some horses!  (Unfortunately Emilia was asleep by then though...ha ha ha!)

Hope you're all having a great Friday!

Home Decor: Our Kitchen & Living Area!

As promised here is a much-requested home decor post!  I decided to start with the "heart" of our house...the kitchen & living area.  Our main living room, dining room & kitchen are all open plan which was probably the biggest selling factor for us when deciding on this house!  We have always loved open plan homes and it suits our family very well :)

I would describe our decorating style as kind of rustic/vintage inspired!  I will try to give as much information on the individual pieces as possible - but if I miss anything feel free to hit me up on Twitter or Facebook! ;)

Here is a look at our kitchen from two different angles.  Our cushion covers are from Dunnes Stores, the kettle & toaster are by De Longhi, our tea towel is by Jamie Oliver and the spice rack is from Home Store & More.  The vase and cake stand were wedding presents from Jonathan's family!

Our makeshift changing table!  Ha ha ha...this was actually just part of the built-in furniture but has worked wonderfully as Emilia's changing table!  We store her nappies and wipes in the drawer underneath.  The cream lamp is from Dunnes, orchid is from Heaton's and I think the set of 3 hanging frames is from Meadows & Byrne.

This is where we watch TV.  The table with wicker baskets is from Atlantic Homecare, and the picture is a photograph of Central Park given to me by my brother.  I got the frame at Harvey Norman.

I am so in love with our tripod lamp!  We got it on sale at Harvey Norman and I had been lusting after it for ages!  They also sell them in black, grey and possibly cream as well.  The brown & buttermilk was my favourite!  It really warms up the room.

Our window seat!  Here's where I display an assortment of candles & ornaments.  A lot of these candle-holders were Christmas presents and the big glass lantern is from my wedding.  We got it in Meadows & Byrne.  The framed photo is a picture of me with my dad when I was 19/20!

Our couch - this has a lot of different cushions/blankets on it that I have collected over the years!  The aqua cushion is by Laura Ashley, the small bird one is from Meadows & Byrne, the brown & aqua dotty one and the big embroidered cream one are from TK Maxx and the cream one with a big flower on it is from Hanley's Garden Centre!  The bottom blanket is from Tesco F&F and the wool cable-knit one on top is from Dunnes Stores (Paul Costelloe's Living range).

I don't know where the hanging hearts are from - they were a present from my Oma and I think she might have gotten them in Germany!  Sorry :(  The hanging heart on the window is from my mom - again I have no idea where it's from!  And the little condiments set in a basket was also a wedding present.

This is our dining area but the table is really messy at the moment so it's not pictured!  Here's where I have our seasonal table which looks rather empty since I took all the Christmas decorations down!  The frame was a present from my brother and has our wedding photo in it, the candle is from Hanley's and the big bowl is from Paul Costelloe's Living range.  We got the big picture as a wedding gift from a friend whose husband is a photographer.  You can check out his work here!

On the opposite wall I have another wedding present - a beautiful drawing of Albi & Sina! This is by an artist called Judy Foley and I absolutely love it!  It's from a photo of them when they were at the beach.

I hope you enjoyed this little peek into our home!  Let me know which room you'd like to see next!

Emilia's Routine (at 4 Months Old)

Outfit from Vitamins Baby :)  Picture taken today!

This has been SUCH a requested post, especially from other stay-at-home mommies who wanted to know how we organise our day.  Let me preface this by saying that we DO NOT stick to this every single day...it very much depends on what we're doing, whether we leave the house or not...and so on.  This is more of a general outline of our day because truthfully if we did the same exact thing all the time I would probably go a little bit crazy!  In December I bought the Gina Ford book "The Contented Little Baby" and although I found her routines too restrictive for my lifestyle, I did learn a few tips which I've adapted to fit our own routine.  This isn't something I really created either...Emilia and I pretty much just slipped into this sort schedule on our own.  Over the course of the last week or so, I knew I was going to do a post & video on this so I tracked all of her feeding, sleeping and playtimes using the What To Expect app on my phone.  This is what most of the days looked like!

5am We wake up (kind of..."half wake up" actually!), she feeds and we fall back asleep.

7am We half wake up, I switch her to the other side and she dreamfeeds again.

9am We wake up (properly this time!), I change her nappy and depending on what we have planned for the day change her into her outfit for the day.  Then I take my shower and get ready (makeup, hair etc.) while she waits either in our bed or in the co-sleeper.  She's usually very good at keeping herself entertained while I do this...I am very lucky :)

10am We go downstairs and she watches a bit of Peppa Pig on the sofa while I prepare breakfast.  Then I play with her while I drink my coffee.

11am Feeding time again.  She nurses on one side, usually has a nappy change and then nurses on the other side.

12pm After I've fed her I usually pop her in her swing while I clean up the kitchen and vacuum the downstairs.  This is when she normally falls asleep and takes her nap.  She can sleep anywhere from 2-2 and 1/2 hours.

1pm If Emilia's still asleep, I use this time to film videos, reply to emails/comments/tweets, take pictures for my blog and eat my lunch!

2pm She wakes up and has another big feed (both sides).  Then she plays on her playmat while I clean.

3pm This is when I usually walk the dogs if I have time...this takes about an hour so I normally pop her in her swing and bring her into her daddy's study where he minds her while I'm on my walk.  Sometimes she does fall asleep during this time!

4pm If Emilia is awake when I get home I put her back on her mat.  I also have something to eat!

5pm She's normally hungry again for a little top-up by now, so I feed her on one side and if she hasn't slept since 2 she'll go down again for a half hour/an hour.

6pm Here's where it gets kind of varied...and totally depends on the day.  Usually I change her nappy, then she plays on her mat...if she's asleep I leave her be!

7pm This is when Jonathan starts preparing dinner and I bring her upstairs to start getting her ready for her bath.  She has bath-time, I put her lotion & moisturiser on and change her into her pj's.  Then she comes back downstairs with me and I nurse her on the couch either before or while eating dinner.

8pm Between 7-8pm is when we usually eat dinner and Emilia's "bed-time".  I say bed-time loosely because as of yet she is still sleeping in her swing.  When we put her down in her crib she sleeps for a maximum of 45 mins.  I feel like she gets the fullest, longest and best quality sleep during the day when she's in her swing so that's how we've chosen to do things for now.

9pm Emilia usually sleeps from about 8/8:30 till about 10/10:30 before she gets the next big feed.  We normally watch TV & relax.  This is also normally when I get the time to blog and recently, paint my nails! ;)

10/10:30pm She generally wakes up ready for another big feed, gets a nappy change and then depending on the time we go up to bed.

11pm/midnight Jonathan and I normally go to bed about this time and since Emilia is sleeping with us, so does she! :)  If for some reason she didn't get a bath that day (say we were out for dinner or something like that) she does gets shower time with daddy before snuggling up in bed with mommy.  I then nurse her to sleep and read Goodnight Moon to her while she's feeding!

And then we repeat the same thing the next day (pretty much)!  I hope this helps you in some way and answers your guys' questions about our daily schedule...obviously her routine will change as she gets older but I will say that I've noticed that this has been the general outline of our day for about a month now.

January Glossybox 2013 (and December Review!)

The January 2013 Glossybox was the "Detox Box" which is supposed to get us back on track with our New Year's Resolutions...at least where beauty and healthy skin are concerned!  The first thing that popped out was this silky pink & black eye mask - very glam and perfect for travelling or getting topped up on our beauty sleep!

Next up we have Sanctuary Spa Active Reverse Facial 30 Day Thermal Transformation Mask which is a 2 step system claiming to dramatically improve the appearance of your skin without cosmetic injections.  I'm definitely interested to try this out!!  I will update you guys on how it works for me!  I also got the Monu Micro Exfoliant which is a dual-action microdermabrasion promising to reduce the appearance of fine lines and pores all while delivering radiant skin.  I have liked all Monu products selected by Glossybox before so I'm really excited to try this as well!  Next product I pulled out was the Eco-Boutique Body Lotion with Aloe Leaf and Green Tea.  Never heard of this brand before and I can't say the packaging is anything special either so I have no idea what this will be like.  I was very impressed with the sample of Murad's Hydro DynamicTM Ultimate Moisture for Eyes as I'm always on the lookout for a new eye cream!  The one I'm currently using was a Glossybox sample as well and I'm almost out of that so when that's used up I will move onto this!  Lastly I also got the BM Beauty Dewy Perfection Finishing Powder which I most likely won't be using as I have oily/combination skin so I generally steer clear of described with the word "dewy"!

All in all I wasn't hugely impressed with this month's Glossybox, probably because it consisted of mostly skincare products rather than make-up which I find a little bit boring!  I am happiest about the eye cream, microdermabrasion and the 2 step skin mask so I'm eager to try them out!  Onto my review of December's Glossybox...I am ashamed to say I didn't do much product testing last month as I had a LOT of Glossyboxes to catch up on!  (I missed quite a few months right around the time Emilia was born and finally opened them all in one go last month) so apologies for this rather shoddy review!  Here are the products that remained untouched...

Glossybox Blusher by Kryolan in Glossy Rosewood

Lemon by Mary Greenwell Eau de Parfum
I ended up giving this to my mom as she loves lemony scents.  I have to say I didn't think this was a very "Christmassy" perfume!

Seche Vite Nail Lacquer in Elegance
Absolutely nothing wrong with this polish, it's just that I didn't start to paint my nails again after having Emilia till this month!  So I know I will use this in the future.

Sleek True Colour Lipstick Coral Reef
This lipstick looks very pigmented and seems promising when swatched however I found the colour much too summery for December!  I will most likely wear this in the summer!

and here are the two products I did use!

Seba Med Anti-Dry Hydrating Body Lotion
This was quite amazing actually!  It's a pity it only lasted one go...but I found it to be super moisturising and hydrating!  The smell isn't offensive either!

Milk_Shake Conditioning Whipped Cream
This was my absolute favourite product of the December box!  I used it everytime I washed my hair after brushing it out when it was semi-damp.  It smells like birthday cake - SO YUMMY!!  And looks like whipped cream...mmm :)  Delicious!  It also leaves my hair feeling super soft and silky.  Love it!

Breakfast
Alpen Raspberry, Apple & Raisin porridge with almond milk, 1/2 banana and cinnamon, black coffee, water and my yummy Red Velvet Yankee Candle!  (I didn't eat the candle...ha ha ha!)

Lunch
Rotisserie chicken and a big salad of iceberg lettuce, sweetcorn, beetroot, avocado & tomatoes!  My mother-in-law and aunt-in-law brought lunch when they came to visit us today and this is what we had :)

Dessert
We celebrated three birthdays in one go (my mother & aunt-in-law's plus Jonathan's which is coming up in February) so they each blew out a candle on this yummy Mississippi Mudpie cake.  I had a slice which I forgot to take a picture of...here were the left-overs!

Dinner
Our guests left quite late so we weren't very hungry for dinner until about 8:30-9pm!  Jonathan made sweet and sour chicken with brown rice, it was delicious!

What did you eat today?  Feel free to link your WIAW in the comments section below! :)  You can watch the video of what I ate today here.

When It Rains It Pours!

Dress/French Connection (last year), Leggings/Avoca, Boots/Chinese Laundry (LoveClothing), Bracelet/Tiffany's, Earrings/PinkDiamondDesign

It was an absolutely disgusting day today - non stop pouring rain, dark, dreary and depressing...which made it completely impossible to take outfit pictures outside so unfortunately I had to make do with these badly lit ones in my kitchen, ha ha!  I hope you don't mind!  This is almost the same exact outfit I wore to my grandmother's birthday dinner in December.  I had a love/hate relationship with this cardigan/dress when I was pregnant - now I realise some things are just not meant to be worn as maternity-wear!

I really did not do a great deal today - I think this weather has had an effect on me!  I have a splitting headache and I feel so lazy and sluggish - bleugh!  Perhaps I need to drink more water and/or go to bed earlier...probably both!  I did film an Ask Anna video for TheStyleDiet and my house is clean so at least I feel somewhat accomplished...ha ha ha!

Last week we finally bought our curtain rail for the master bedroom so now we can hang our new curtains - yay!  I can't wait to show you guys.  I also have my eye on a starburst mirror for the wall over our bed which I'm hoping is on sale.  I may pick that up next week and finish off decorating that room.

Bianca and Nuvies wanted to make an appearance on the blog - they are looking rather bedraggled from the rain, ha ha ha!  They are also loving their new beds we picked up on sale at Home Store & More!  I really recommend them if you have pets (they have cat ones too!).  Even Albi, who is the fussiest of doggies loves them!  The puppies are constantly fighting over bed space - I think we need to buy two more!

Hope you are all having a fashionable Friday! ;)

How I Keep Organised!

$

Ever since buying my Filofax a few months ago, I have been getting requests to do a "Filofax tour" or post on how I stay organised.  So here it is!  This is my Filofax - the Finsbury Personal Organiser (A5) in Pink.  I bought it in Easons for about €70.  This was definitely an investment but I'm proud to say that I use my Filofax every single day so I consider it worth the money!  Here's how I organise it:

When you first open up my organiser you will find my daily to-do list and weekly goals.  I like to put these at the front of my Filofax so that I don't forget about them!  I make a new to-do list almost everyday.  Initially I used the specific Filofax To-Do List paper with the little boxes that you can tick off but they run out rather quickly so that can be a bit wasteful.  They do look cute though!

After my Personal Information page (which comes with every Filofax) I keep my calendar which consists of the week on 2 pages format.  This is how I plan out my week, writing in all my video/blog posts that I have planned as well as birthdays and appointments.  You also get a ruler with "Today" marked on it which you can swap out each week.  Everyday I also keep on track of my  bank balance & analytics by writing them  in (hence the pink blob above - didn't want to make that public!).  I feel like this keeps me more organised and feeling like I'm on top of things...I don't know, maybe that's weird but I have always felt this way!

After the calendar/diary section we have tabs.  I actually have four main ones plus an address book which you can't really see here.  I was inspired to organise them this way by FlyLady.net!  I really recommend her website especially if you are a stay-at-home/work-at-home mom or just take care of the household and feel it can get overwhelming at times.  I'm not going to go too in detail about her routines or philosophies because that's all available on her website but basically how I have set up my organiser is similar to how she recommends setting up your "control journal".  The five tabs I have are:

Daily Routines
Basic Weekly Plan
Menus/Groceries
Address Book
Personal

Under Daily Routines I first have my Before-Bed Routine.  I copied this from the Flylady website so some of it doesn't really apply to me but I still find it helpful to ensure that everything gets done and that I'm organised for the next day ahead.

Next I have my Morning Routine which almost never changes.  Again I have taken this from Flylady so I don't stick to everything 100% but it's great for getting off to a good and productive start every morning!  Next to that I have Daily Reminders - also from Flylady.  These are handy to glance at throughout the day and keep you on track with getting things done.  You can also keep them on your phone if you prefer, or set up alarms if you're really forgetful!

The Basic Weekly Plan tab is where I assign all my weekly chores and tasks to one day a week.  I have a page for every day of the week where I have written out the Flylady's tasks and then modified them to fit my own life.  For example for Monday she recommends doing the Weekly Home Blessing Hour, which is basically a general weekly clean including mopping, dusting, vacuuming etc.  However this would probably take me much longer than an hour so instead I just designate different tasks to different days of the week.  Example:

Monday - Mop all floors
Tuesday - Dust downstairs
Wednesday - Clean bathrooms (shower stall & bathtub)
Thursday - Dust upstairs
Friday - Clean mirrors & doors
Saturday - Free
Sunday - Vacuum all rooms & change sheets

Thursdays are usually when we visit the PO box, do our big weekly grocery shop and run any other errands we have to get done!

At the back of this section I keep my weekly checklist which keeps me up-to-date on what I need to get done every week.

Under the Menus/Groceries tab is where I keep a Master Grocery List which tells me exactly what we tend to buy.  Like most families we do repurchase a lot of the same things, especially when it comes to basics so it's good to have a full list of everything so that I can refer to it at any time.  Obviously we don't run through all of this stuff every week but it still helps to know what we use.  After the Master List I usually write a new Grocery List each week which varies depending on what we are planning to eat/prepare and how much we already have in the freezer/fridge/cupboards.  I usually write the list on Wednesday (the day before we go shopping) which is when I also clear out the fridge and get a good idea of what we need to buy.  I also can add to this during the rest of the week if we run out of something or I know I won't remember it at the shop!

After that I have my Address Book.  Obviously this is something that I also keep on my phone but I am just one of those people that likes to have a tangible version as well as a digital one...it makes me feel more secure!  Plus this comes in very useful if I'm sending out birthday or Christmas cards as everything is in one place!

Finally we have the Personal tab where I keep anything else I want to make a list of or write down such as personal goals, shopping lists (that don't relate to groceries!) wishlists and so on...

At the back of my Filofax is a clear plastic business card holder and a zipped pocket.  At the front it also has some slots for cards which I don't use and a pen holder which I find very useful as before this I could never find my pen!

And here's my little helper bee Emilia!  She hung out in my cupcake room and played with her toys while I took blog pictures today ;)  She is such a cutie-pie!  Well, I hope you found this post interesting...maybe it will inspire you or maybe you have some organising tips of your own that you'd like to share!  Let me know in the comments below if you do!  Also please know that this is just what works for me...it might not suit everyone!  I love my Filofax and bring it with me almost everywhere.  If you are looking for a personal organiser I definitely recommend it :)
